A Montgomery County judge has ruled Maryland's Child Victims Act unconstitutional, contradicting two other state circuit courts that upheld the 2023 law. The Act, enacted in April, removed the previous time limit for child abuse survivors to sue perpetrators and institutions enabling their abuse. A lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Washington, filed in Montgomery County Circuit Court, asked a judge to dismiss the case, arguing the law is unconstitutional.
