Two Maltese men arrested for smuggling 2,500 stuffed birds, 100 live protected birds; suspected part of organized crime ring.
Police arrest two Maltese men, a 42-year-old from Żurrieq and a 57-year-old from Gudja, on suspicion of smuggling 2,500 stuffed birds and 100 live protected birds. Officers found seven shotguns and the carcass of an African Genet in the suspects' homes. The suspects are believed to be part of a larger organized crime ring smuggling protected birds into Malta. This is the largest bird smuggling haul in years.
