2021 Japan cherry blossom season begins later than average due to cooler March temperatures.

Cherry blossom season has begun in Japan, with Tokyo's "Somei Yoshino" variety blooming 15 days later than last year and five days later than the average due to cooler temperatures in March. Kyoto saw its first blooms three days later than average. Private weather service company Weathernews Inc predicts blossoms in northeastern regions in early April and in the northern main island of Hokkaido by late April.
