California Governor Gavin Newsom announces the installation of 480 high-tech surveillance cameras in Oakland and surrounding freeways to help combat crime. The cameras, supplied by Flock Safety, will identify vehicles by license plate, type, color, and decals or bumper stickers, providing real-time alerts of suspect vehicles. The California Highway Patrol has contracted with Flock Safety to install 290 cameras within Oakland city and 190 on state highways in the East Bay.
