Uganda supports bamboo cultivation to restore river banks and protect Rwizi river's water catchment.

Uganda is backing bamboo as a promising crop for growth. Environment protection officers are working to restore a 3-kilometer stretch of river banks by planting new bamboo seedlings, creating a buffer zone against sand miners and other activities that threaten the water catchment area. The National Environment Management Authority estimates that the Rwizi river has lost 60% of its water catchment area over the decades.
