2.1 billion birds are migrating from the Gulf of Mexico to eastern U.S. and Canada, passing through Arkansas this spring. Migration season begins in mid-March and peaks in early May. A new program called "Urban Native Greens" encourages community members to monitor nests of specific bird species, submitting data to better understand the effects of mosquito spraying on bird populations and the benefits of native plants on bird nesting success.
