China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with New Zealand's Foreign Minister Winston Peters in Wellington, marking the highest-ranking Chinese politician to visit the country since 2017. Wang expressed China's willingness to strengthen communications with New Zealand to maintain peace and stability in the region and globally. As China is New Zealand's top trading partner, the meeting aimed to build on previous engagements and discuss challenges and opportunities facing the two nations. Wang Yi is also scheduled to meet with New Zealand's Prime Minister, Christopher Luxon, and Australia's Foreign Minister, Penny Wong, and hold a roundtable with business leaders in Canberra.
