16-year-old high school student attempted to murder a classmate over a love triangle, writing a "kill plan" and telling his ex to stay away from school on the day he planned to kill. When his plans went awry, he attacked the victim at his home, using a machete to slice open his chest and forearm. The youth was sentenced to 12 months at home detention in the Wellington High Court.
