Houston Mayor John Whitmire and the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association signed a historic $650m settlement to resolve a longstanding pay dispute, ensuring back pay for firefighters since 2017 and granting a permanent 18% pay increase in 2021, along with an additional 10% raise starting July 2024, leading to a total pay increase of up to 34% by 2029. The agreement also retains existing benefits, introduces new incentives, and lasts for five years.
