Democrats are building a first-ever team to counter third-party and independent presidential candidates, as they take the threat more seriously this election cycle. The DNC has hired Lis Smith and overseen by Mary Beth Cahill and Ramsey Reid to oversee a strategy including aggressive communications, opposition research, and legal challenges to discourage third-party votes, after the impact of such votes in 2016.
