2018 "Ready Player One" director Spielberg will produce, not direct, the sequel "Ready Player Two."

Steven Spielberg, director of the 2018 film adaptation of Ernest Cline's novel "Ready Player One," will not be returning to direct the sequel, "Ready Player Two." Instead, he will produce the upcoming film, currently in the discovery phase. Spielberg's involvement in the sequel's production was confirmed; however, it still needs to overcome negative critical reception of the original book's sequel.
