New Zealand's government is launching an independent review of the costs associated with the forestry component of the country's Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). Forestry Minister Todd McClay stated that the government is looking for assurance that the scheme's costs, including whether forest owners should pay an annual $30 per hectare fee for participating, are appropriate. Forestry and afforestation are key components of New Zealand's efforts to meet its 2050 emissions goals.
