The New Zealand Government, under Forestry Minister Todd McClay, has proposed a 50% reduction in the annual charge for forest owners in the Forestry Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). The charge will decrease from $30.25 to $14.90 per hectare, effective in the 2024/25 financial year. A consultation period began on October 23 and will last three weeks, allowing feedback on this and related regulatory changes. The aim is to enhance support for the forestry sector.
