The Justice Department launches an antitrust investigation into UnitedHealth Group's insurance and health management divisions.

The Justice Department (DOJ) is reportedly launching an antitrust investigation into UnitedHealth Group, the largest US health insurer and a top manager of pharmacy benefits and physician groups. The investigation is focused on the relationship between UnitedHealthcare, the company's insurance division covering roughly 50 million people, and Optum Health, which employs about 90,000 doctors. Investigators are examining whether UnitedHealthcare favored Optum-owned groups in contracting practices and whether Optum's ownership of healthcare providers presented challenges to rivals.
