Utah Governor Spencer Cox declared 2024 as "No-Kill Shelter Year," aiming to make the state the largest no-kill state in the US. Currently, 46 of Utah's 58 shelters have reached no-kill status. Best Friends Animal Society, a national organization working to end shelter deaths for cats and dogs by 2025, supports this goal. If successful, Utah will be the first no-kill state in the west and the largest in the country.
