Malaysian Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching stated that social media platforms cannot be compelled to remove content critical of the government, as the decision lies with the platform providers. MCMC can request removals, but the government has no control over large multinational companies and their own community guidelines. In 2023, over 7,000 pieces of hateful content, fake news, and 3R matters were removed.
