Malaysia is fine-tuning plans to enforce licensing on online service providers, including social media platforms, according to Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching. The licensing framework, being finalized by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), targets social media providers and Internet Messaging Services accessible to users in the country, based on predefined assessment criteria. The proposal is seen as proportionate given the prevalence of harmful content on these platforms.
