The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has approved Norway's Equinor to start building a massive offshore wind farm off the coast of New York. The Empire Wind project, located 12 nautical miles south of Long Island, has the potential to power over 700,000 homes annually once constructed and could begin delivering power to New York by 2026. The project is expected to play a key role in helping the US and states such as New York meet their goals to decarbonize the power grid and combat climate change.
