John Oliver, initially set to become The Daily Show's permanent summer host, left without choosing to due to Comedy Central not valuing him as a host, ultimately moving to HBO.

In a recent interview on Marc Maron's "WTF" podcast, John Oliver revealed that he and Jon Stewart had once discussed a plan for Oliver to become the permanent summer host of The Daily Show while Stewart maintained his position. However, this plan fell through as Comedy Central did not show interest in Oliver. He further criticized HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery during the podcast, describing their change in ownership over the years as new dads moving into the home and suggesting that their Emmy wins offer only temporary existence.
