Berlin Zoo mourns the death of Ingo the Flamingo.

The Berlin Zoo is mourning the death of its oldest resident, Ingo the Flamingo, who is believed to have been at least 75 years old. Ingo had lived at the zoo since the summer of 1955. The exact origin of the flamingo is unknown, but a ring on his leg with the inscription "Cairo, 23.6.1948" suggested his minimum age. Ingo outlived the average life span of flamingos in the wild, which is about 30 years. The zoo announced Ingo's death on social media, and although he fathered descendants, detailed records of the young flamingos were not kept.
