Rhode Island Department of Transportation tests two-lane I-195 West traffic pattern from 02/02/2024 to manage congestion and improve merging.

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) is testing new traffic patterns on I-195 West, starting on Friday, 2024-02-02, to ease congestion. The department has reduced the number of lanes from three to two lanes, starting east of the East Shore Expressway entrance. RIDOT's goal is to increase travel speed and improve merging for those entering I-195 West from East Shore Expressway, Pawtucket Avenue, and Broadway. RIDOT will monitor the impact of the new patterns and decide whether to reverse or maintain the changes after gathering information over the weekend.
