China's Supreme Court imposed record-high fines on Chinese farm chemical manufacturers for patent infringement of FMC's active ingredient, chlorantraniliprole.

The Supreme Court of China handed down substantial fines on several Chinese farm chemical manufacturers found guilty of patent infringement. The case was brought to court by global crop protection company FMC, which was found to have its proprietary active ingredient, chlorantraniliprole, infringed upon by these manufacturers. The fines given by the SPC, totaling nearly $1 million, are among the highest damages awarded in patent infringement suits in China's pesticide industry in recent times. The penalty followed FMC's appeal to the SPC after a court in Henan province found the offenders guilty but handed out a lesser fine.
