Maryland proposes raising minimum wage to $20 per hour by 2030, facing Republican opposition.

Maryland lawmakers have proposed raising the state’s minimum wage to $20 per hour by 2030 and making tips tax-free. The bill also plans to phase out the state's tipped wage, currently at $3.63, so tipped workers earn the full minimum wage. While 63% of likely voters support the increase, Republicans oppose the bill, calling it "dead on arrival." If approved by voters in 2026, the amendment would raise the minimum wage gradually from the current $15 per hour.
