French Prime Minister promises aid to Mayotte after cyclone kills 39, injures thousands.
French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou visited Mayotte, a French territory devastated by Cyclone Chido, promising aid. The cyclone, the most destructive in 90 years, killed at least 39 people and injured over 5,600. Bayrou announced a two-phase plan: "Mayotte standing" for immediate rebuilding and a long-term plan for a different future for the territory. Emergency services are still working to restore basic services two weeks after the disaster.
