California enacts multiple new laws affecting minimum wage, property rights, and state symbols.

In 2024, California enacts new laws raising the minimum wage to $16.50 and increasing the State Disability Insurance rate to 1.2%. Senate Bill 1072 may leave property owners without proper compensation for water bill overcharges, while AB 1827 could add unconstitutional charges based on speculative factors. Senate Bill 1441 shortens the review time for citizen-initiated recalls and adds new financial burdens. Governor Newsom also added three new state symbols: the banana slug, Dungeness crab, and black abalone.
