In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, few overseas Indians voted despite high registrations.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, nearly 1.2 lakh Indians living abroad registered to vote, but only 2,958 actually cast their ballots. Kerala saw the highest registration and voting numbers, while states like Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh had no turnout. Though a bill to allow proxy voting for overseas Indians was passed in 2018, it remains unimplemented. The Election Commission has proposed extending the Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System to overseas voters, but the government has yet to act on this proposal.
