Ottawa's Rideau Canal Skateway prepares for earlier opening due to recent cold temperatures.

The National Capital Commission (NCC) is preparing the Rideau Canal Skateway in Ottawa due to recent freezing temperatures. Crews are flooding the canal to build ice, aiming for a thickness of 30 cm for safe skating. Due to climate change, the NCC is starting preparations earlier. Environment Canada predicts continuing cold weather, which could help the skateway open sooner. The skateway did not open the previous year and only briefly last season.
