Rep. Gerry Connolly beat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to become top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) has been recommended by the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee to become the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, after defeating Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) in a 34-27 vote. The full Democratic caucus is expected to confirm Connolly's appointment, which is seen as a win for more moderate Democrats over progressives. Connolly was backed by the New Democrat Coalition, the party's largest caucus.
