Dr. Matthew Christiansen resigned as West Virginia's state health officer, effective Dec. 13.

Dr. Matthew Christiansen has resigned as West Virginia's state health officer, effective December 13th. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and focused on rebuilding public trust and improving coordination with local health departments. Christiansen previously served as the state’s drug czar. His resignation does not affect his role as vice chair of the West Virginia First Foundation. No replacement has been named yet.
