Philippines caps Metro Manila's motorcycle taxis at 45,000, despite drivers' income concerns.

The Philippines' Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has kept the number of motorcycle taxis in Metro Manila at 45,000 since 2020, despite claims by transport groups that these taxis have reduced their income. LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III says the decrease in ridership is due to more remote work and changes in school schedules. The board has approved an additional 4,000 motorcycles in other regions. House Bill 10571, which aims to regulate motorcycle taxis for safety, has been passed by lawmakers and is pending Senate approval.
