The Coeur d'Alene airport in Idaho has built a cost-effective air traffic control tower using shipping containers for about $300,000, compared to a potential $20 million for a traditional tower. The FAA is considering this model for other airports. The tower, expected to be operational this summer, aims to manage noise and flight routes better. The airport, which is self-sufficient, has also added 18 new hangars.
