Harmony Gold Mining appoints Beyers Nel as new CEO in 2025, focusing on copper expansion abroad.
Harmony Gold Mining has named Beyers Nel as its new CEO starting January 1, 2025, succeeding the retiring Peter Steenkamp. Nel, who has been with the company since 2003 and currently serves as chief operating officer, will lead Harmony's expansion into copper projects in Australia and Papua New Guinea. Floyd Masemula will serve as deputy CEO. The company aims to offset declining mineral reserves in South Africa through this diversification.
