Congo's Kimbanguist Symphony Orchestra overcame resource shortages to become Africa's leading classical music group.

The Kimbanguist Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1994 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has grown into one of Africa's leading classical music institutions despite initial struggles with limited resources. Musicians originally had to share instruments and even use bicycle brake cables as replacements for broken strings. Now with 200 members, the orchestra has performed internationally and operates a music school in Kinshasa.
