Dividend-paying stocks outperformed non-dividend stocks by nearly double over 50 years, study shows.
According to a Hartford Funds study, dividend-paying stocks outperformed non-dividend stocks over 50 years, with returns of 9.17% vs. 4.27%, respectively. Companies raising dividends saw even higher returns of 10.2% with less volatility. Notable stocks that have increased dividends over four recessions include S&P Global, Cincinnati Financial, Automatic Data Processing, Chevron, and ExxonMobil.
