The Jammu and Kashmir regional assembly in India has passed a resolution urging the federal government to restore the territory's partial autonomy, revoked in 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This non-binding resolution, backed by the newly elected National Conference party, calls for dialogue with local representatives but is expected to be rejected by Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party. The region remains a contentious area claimed by both India and Pakistan.
