Lancaster, PA declares a state of emergency due to a significant homeless shelter shortage.

Lancaster, Pennsylvania has declared a state of emergency to address a significant shortage of shelter for the homeless. With only 230 year-round beds and 50 winter beds, the city needs at least 40 more. A temporary shelter at 308 E. King St. will operate until January 31 or until a new shelter opens on East Clay Street in December. This declaration enables the city to expedite permits and waive certain regulations to better manage the crisis.
