In British Columbia, the Coroners Service reports a notable rise in illicit drug-related deaths among women, with a 60% increase over the past four years. In 2021, 26% of the 1,749 recorded toxicity deaths were female, despite an overall decrease in drug fatalities compared to the previous year. Fentanyl, present in 85% of cases, remains the leading cause of these deaths, averaging six fatalities daily. Most victims were aged 30 to 49.
