Stats NZ announced that New Zealand's upcoming 2026 general election will feature a reduction in general electorates from 65 to 64, with the North Island losing one seat, decreasing from 49 to 48. The total number of Māori electorates remains at seven. This change, based on the 2023 Census data, will add one list seat in the 120-member Parliament, resulting in 71 electorate seats and 49 list seats overall. New electoral boundaries will be established accordingly.
