Prof. Agyei-Mensah warns Ghana may miss SDG 6.1 water access goal by 2030 due to contamination from illegal mining and urban expansion.

Professor Samuel Agyei-Mensah of the University of Ghana warns that the country is unlikely to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.1 for universal access to safe drinking water by 2030. With only 26-50% of the population using safely managed water, illegal mining and urban expansion exacerbate contamination issues. He calls for a national summit to create a long-term water strategy and suggests stricter enforcement of laws against illegal mining to improve water safety.
