Russian hacking group Star Blizzard targets US officials, journalists, and orgs using spear phishing, prompting US DOJ to seize related domains.

A Russian hacking group, Star Blizzard, linked to the FSB, has targeted U.S. officials, journalists, and civil society organizations using spear phishing tactics to steal sensitive information. Microsoft, tracking the group since 2017, reported over 30 attacks in early 2023. In response, the U.S. Department of Justice seized more than 100 domains associated with the group, as part of efforts to counter foreign interference in U.S. democracy ahead of the 2024 election.
