Dr. Freddie Thomas Middle School in Rochester opened, replacing Nathaniel Hawthorne School, honoring a prominent researcher.

Dr. Freddie Thomas Middle School in Rochester has officially opened, replacing the former Nathaniel Hawthorne School No. 25. The name honors Dr. Freddie Thomas, a notable researcher for Eastman Kodak. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held, attended by parents, faculty, and Dr. Thomas' widow, Midge Thomas. The renaming is part of the district's reconfiguration plan, aimed at fostering a positive community environment for students. Another school, Andrew Langston Middle School, will also celebrate its new name soon.
