In the first five months of 2024, Ireland's Health Service Executive reported issuing 14,638 antidepressant prescriptions to individuals under 18. Most were under the General Medical Service scheme. In 2023, there were 36,578 such prescriptions. The Department of Health supports medication for young people with moderate to severe mental illness, but it announced a review of prescribing practices in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services due to concerns highlighted in the "Maskey Report."
