NATO's Deputy Secretary General, Mircea Geoana, announced his resignation effective September 10, 2024, after five years in the role. The first Romanian and the first from a post-Cold War member to hold this position, Geoana focused on technology and security challenges during his tenure. Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg acknowledged his contributions. Boris Ruge will serve as interim Deputy Secretary General until a successor is named.
