Waterspouts, or tornadoes over water, have been confirmed in Quebec and Nova Scotia this summer, with the Northern Tornadoes Project documenting around 15 such events annually since its inception in 2017. This summer, 18 waterspouts have been confirmed or suspected across Eastern Canada, with the increase in documented tornadoes attributed to improved reporting and social media documentation. While waterspouts can pose a danger to boats, they typically move slowly enough to be avoided.
