Transgender woman wins indirect discrimination case against female-only app Giggle for Girls in Australia.

In a landmark Australian court case, a transgender woman sued the female-only social media app Giggle for Girls and its founder Sall Grover for A$200,000 after she was banned from the platform. She identifies as a woman and believed she was discriminated against due to her gender identity. The Federal Court found she experienced indirect discrimination and ordered the app to pay her A$10,000 plus costs. However, Giggle's legal team argued that the case was about sex, not gender identity, and refusing access to the app was lawful as its founder perceives the plaintiff to be male. The case, known as "Tickle vs Giggle," set a precedent for determining legal definitions of who can claim to be a woman, and marked the first time the Federal Court had heard a case alleging gender identity discrimination in Australia.
