NFL considers adding an 18th regular-season game for increased revenue and potential player benefits.

The NFL is considering adding an 18th regular-season game, after introducing a 17th game in 2021. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFLPA union chief Lloyd Howell both seem open to the idea, despite concerns about player safety and fatigue. The NFL aims to increase lucrative national television windows by adding more games, as they generate significant revenue, currently receiving over $113 billion over 11 years for their broadcast rights. An 18th game would provide the league with more revenue, and players may receive a larger share of the proceeds as part of the collective bargaining agreement. A recent ESPN survey revealed that 46% of players would support an 18-game season with certain conditions, while 8% are willing to accept the change without additional concessions.
