Gore farmers oppose the Gore District Council's proposal to declare the entire district a Site and Area of Significance for Māori.

Gore farmers object to the Gore District Council's proposal to declare the entire district a Site and Area of Significance for Māori, arguing it could add bureaucracy and costs. The plan includes 91 rules or standards in which Māori values need to be assessed, affecting not only farmers but also those creating cycling and walking tracks, building hydro and wind turbines, and subdividing land. Farmers' president Jason Herrick urges the council to reconsider, stating they are willing to respect genuine sites of significance but not the entire district being declared as such.
