5th US Circuit Court of Appeals rules in favor of Texas, allowing the state to maintain its floating barrier in the Rio Grande.

The 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled in favor of Texas, allowing the state to keep its floating barrier in the Rio Grande. The court ruled that the federal law likely did not apply to the stretch of the river where Texas had placed the buoys and that the Justice Department had not provided evidence that the barrier posed a safety threat. Texas Governor Greg Abbott celebrated the ruling, stating that the buoys would stay in place to secure the border. The case will continue to be argued in district court.
