18-year-old Carleton College student Edward Hayward participates in China's Young Envoys Scholarship program, studying Chinese language at Beijing Normal University.

This summer, Edward Hayward, a junior at Carleton College in the US, has been enjoying a summer of cultural exchange in China as part of the Young Envoys Scholarship (YES) program. Spending two months at Beijing Normal University, Hayward has been immersed in intensive Chinese language courses and has found Beijing to be "beautiful" and "amazing". The Chinese government plans to invite 50,000 young Americans to China for exchange and study over the next five years.
