University of Cambridge scientists develop stretchable, hydrogels-based "jelly batteries" inspired by electric eels for use in wearables, soft robotics, and medical applications.

Scientists at the University of Cambridge have developed "jelly batteries" inspired by electric eels. These soft, stretchable batteries, made from hydrogels, could be used in wearable devices, soft robotics or even implanted in the brain for drug delivery or treating conditions such as epilepsy. The batteries, which have combined stretchability and conductivity for the first time, are capable of delivering an electric current and are made from 3D networks of polymers containing over 60% water.
